Mal being only part gorgon it's not lethal to look at her, and it's pretty much up to you how badly you want your character to be affacted by her "creep out aura".
Basically she is percieved as repulsive and frightening to those who look at her, though in time if you get to know her and come to value her as a person this will fade away. Someone who is in love with her would for example not experience much (or any) discomfort when looking at her.
The worst is looking her in the eye, and the effect of that is again pretty much up to you. Your character might be reminded of bad things that have happened to her, or maybe they just feel terribly afraid, or they actually think they've turned into stone even if they actually haven't.
Her wings are usually hidden under her clothes unless otherwise specified, and they tend to make it look like she has an oddly shaped back, like a hump or something.
Her dreads are very long and will occasionally behave in weird ways, something about the way the move is just a tad off. Mal also behaves as if she's a lot more aware of her hair than most people, and that would be because she actually has a minor degree of feeling in it.
